That’s why this month I am featuring local lactation consultants who help families overcome common breastfeeding challenges and feel confident in caring for their newborns. Hello, Ann! Please tell us about your practice. How did your business get started?
I have been an IBCLC for over 25 years (recertifying every 5 years!) Have had a private practice throughout and also worked in Pediatric practices and Family practice.
What services do you provide for expecting and new families?
Prenatal Infant feeding class, Lactation consultation for newborns-six month olds, Medical grade breast pump rentals, Volume intake scale rentals, and more.
What are the most common breastfeeding challenges your consultants help families overcome?
Getting started/early days of breastfeeding, discomfort when feeding, feeding difficulties, nighttime parenting, c/o weight gain, c/o returning to work, pumping….
What is one piece of advice you wish every expecting mother knew before her baby arrives?
Stop watching the clock – watch the baby – avoid timing feedings or time between! Babies breastfeed for many reasons, not just hunger. Finding a way to get the most sleep despite disruptions feeding baby.
When should a family consider reaching out to a lactation consultant?
Anytime they have questions or need reassurance before or after birth.
What are some common myths about breastfeeding?
Thinking that baby needs supplementation, assuming baby will sleep at night, “spoiling” the baby, Nursing on one breast at a feeding, assuming that what you pump is amount baby is getting at breast.
What services does Triangle Lactation offer?
Consultations, Classes, Pump and scale rentals.
What is the typical investment for families who work with your practice, and do you accept insurance, HSA, or FSA payments?
Currently, Triangle Lactation accepts Aetna, UHC, Cigna are typically covered through a processing agency. BCBS no longer covers directly, but typically reimburses with Super Bill and diagnosis. Others are out of pocket, but I’m happy to discuss individual needs or hardships.
