Welcome back to my June blog series featuring local lactation consultants and breastfeeding professionals serving families in Raleigh and the surrounding areas. Over the past few weeks, I have shared interviews with several experienced lactation consultants, each offering their own unique perspective and approach to supporting new parents. Today, I am excited to introduce another local service in Holly Springs, North Carolina – Honeysuckle Lactation Consultants. In this interview, the team shares their expertise on breastfeeding support, common feeding challenges, and the services they offer to help families feel confident and supported throughout their feeding journey. If you are expecting a baby or looking for lactation support after delivery, I hope you will find their insights both helpful and encouraging.

Interview with Honeysuckle Lactation Consultants
Please tell us about your practice. How did your business get started?
Our practice specializes in supporting and guiding women through the wonderful but sometimes challenging journey of breastfeeding.
What services do you provide for expecting and new families?
We provide prenatal consults before baby arrives. We also specialize in topics such as latching and positioning, tongue and lip tie concerns, painful breasts/nipples, supplementation and bottle feeding, milk supply concerns, and pumping and flange sizing.
What are the most common breastfeeding challenges your consultants help families overcome?
Most common challenges we help overcome include babies who struggle to transfer a sufficient amount of milk at the breast to gain weight, and increasing milk supply volumes!
What is one piece of advice you wish every expecting mother knew before her baby arrives?
A piece of advice that I wish moms knew is that scheduling a prenatal consult with lactation helps improve breastfeeding outcomes! Also a general piece of advice is to plan who is in your village before baby arrives. It is soo important to have people you can trust to help you in one of the most vulnerable times of your life!

When should a family consider reaching out to a lactation consultant?
Ideally, schedule a consult before the baby arrives to be set up for success! But if you have already delivered, then we recommend scheduling with a lactation consultant if you have any concerns about latch or pain when feeding, or even if you just want to make sure everything is going right- we can just confirm that for you!
What are some common myths about breastfeeding?
That it is easy and instinctual.
That if you have small breasts, you can’t produce enough milk.
That the baby needs more than colostrum in the first few days of life.
What does a typical consultation look like, and do you offer in-home visits, virtual consultations, or both?
We offer both in-home consults as well as office visits! A typical first appointment lasts up to 90 minutes. We go over medical history, birth history, assess babys oral function, discuss feeding goals, watch a feed at the breast, and weigh the baby on a highly accurate scale to see how much baby transferred at the breast to devlop a personalized plan based on needs and goals!
What services do you offer? What is the typical investment for families who work with your practice, and do you accept insurance, HSA, or FSA payments?
We offer prenatal appointments as well as appointments once baby arrives. We also offer back to work consults and bottle refusal consults! We take most major insurances and also accept HSA and FSA payments!
