WHEN TO TAKE MATERNITY PHOTOS? | DURHAM MATERNITY PHOTOGRAPHER

The pretty mom-to-be walks along of the field. She wears a maxi boho dress with ruffles. Her hair is blond and wavy. She gently hugs her bump and looks to her left. The portrait was taken by Durham maternity photographer - Victoria Vasilyeva Photography.

There is no right or wrong answer to the question – when to take maternity photos? As Durham Maternity Photographer I have experience in taking pregnancy portraits for more than 15 years, I collected a lot of useful information for my lovely clients, who are looking to book a maternity photo session. Your personal experience will be unique, but I really hope you will find the answers to your questions and it helps to make the whole process as stress-free and fun as possible.

While most photographers recommend taking your maternity photographs between 32 – 36 weeks,  it may not be perfect for you. First of all, you have to feel comfortable and beautiful during the whole session long. It depends on the belly size a lot. Some moms-to-be have so nice and round bumps at 28 weeks, but not so heavy that they feel overly tired and uncomfortable. It means this is the best time for you.

I would not like to talk about it, but a common problem of pregnant women is swelling of the legs, arms, and face. Why should you keep it in mind? Sometimes you have to collect your maternity outfit for the photo session from the beginning because the planned one doesn’t fit anymore.

Some babies are in a hurry to see our beautiful world. There is one more reason to plan your maternity photo session in advance. Full-term babies are born between 37 and 42 completed weeks of pregnancy. But, more than half a million babies are born before they have reached 37 weeks of maturity.

Summarizing the above, I would recommend booking your pregnancy portrait session somewhere between 28 and 32 weeks.

Book a Session with Durham Maternity Photographer

One more thing you need to keep in mind, while you are planning the portrait session with Durham maternity photographer is the location. Why does it matter?

I offer studio, in-home, and outdoor photo sessions depending on your wishes. In-home photo sessions will make you feel cozy and comfortable even if we are taking nude photos. Such photography can be carried out at the very beginning of the third trimester of pregnancy. Belly size doesn’t really matter if you plan on taking photos in lingerie or nude. My maternity photo sessions feature complimentary access to my maternity wardrobe. Maternity gowns emphasize the beautiful curves of your body but can hide your belly if it is not big enough. It may look a little weird like you just ate a lot.

Based on this, I can say that intimate or nude portraits with your Durham Maternity Photographer can be done earlier, starting from 24-26 weeks of pregnancy.

How far in advance should you book maternity photos with twins?

A mom expecting twins or triplets should follow the advice above, but generally, the best time to book your maternity pictures is somewhere around 20-24 weeks.
