Making UNC Midwives Part of Your Birth Plan

UNC Midwives will provide you with the information and resources you need to make the best choices for your birth. A birth plan is a way to communicate your preferences to your care team. It can be a helpful tool in navigating your options and making decisions that are right for you. UNC Midwives will help generate a birth plan that takes into account your individual needs and desires. A birth plan may include who will be present during labor and delivery, and what type of environment, pain management, or delivery position you prefer. As well as instructions about postpartum care. A birth plan is a good idea but remember, that it is not a guarantee. You will never know how things will unfold. There are requests for preferences during labor and delivery that should be followed regardless of what happens in the hospital. Others may need to change depending on both mom’s health as well as the baby’s situation.

Vaginal Birth after Caesarean with UNC Midwives

Every woman deserves to make an informed decision about their birth experience. UNC Midwives is excited to share the new guidelines regarding Vaginal Birth after Caesarean (VBAC). The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) now recommends that all individuals who have had a previous cesarean delivery be offered a trial of labor and vaginal delivery. You will be offered VBAC if you meet specific criteria, including having a prior low transverse cesarean delivery, a Bishop score of at least 6, and no history of uterine rupture.
